Chicago Marathon 2018

Chicago Marathon Our Fave Flat and Fast Course

Chicago is one of our favorite cities and this marathon holds a special place in my heart (it's my sub3 marathon PR course).  The Chicago Marathon course is flat and fast and I've been lucky to have great weather (cool) both times I've run it.

If you've never been to Chicago, here are a few of our fave must-visit attractions & running spots and you can visit most of them on a nice shakeout run before your big race!   Upon your arrival to the windy city, we recommend a shakeout run along the lakefront trail.  Easily accessed from downtown, this is a perfect trail that spans the lakeshore and offers a run-by tour of Shedd Aquarium, Grant Park, Buckingham Fountain, Chicago Art Institute, Millenium Park, Chicago Riverwalk, Navy Pier and the Water Tower.  This trail does border the Lakeshore for most of the distance, so be sure to plan for a little exposure and wind.

While running along Chicago's Lakeshore path, you'll be treated to beautiful lake views, parks and modern art sculptures.

We grabbed this quick shot during one of my shakeout runs along the lakeshore at the famous Buckingham Fountain.

Chicago has tons of great restaurants perfect for Carb-loading or post-race recovery feasting.  My favorite treat-meal post marathon has always been famous Chicago Deep Dish Pizza! Every year I've run this marathon I usually walk straight from the finish link to the restaurant (it's a good cooldown leg shake out walk).   I've never had a bad slice of pizza in Chicago, but you can't go wrong with local favorite Giordano's!

Here I am my PR Marathon year in 2012 rockin the Snow Leopard running skirt, black run love long sleeve and our black run love compression socks. This was about mile 24 or so when I was well into the pain cave just trying to hold on to my pace the last few miles.

Best of luck to all running the 2018 Chicago Marathon this year!  May the weather gods be on your side and the wind at your back (in both directions)!
