- Canada Army Run
It’s great to have you join us! And, whether you’re participating in the half marathon or 5K, we know you’re in for a very special experience!
Not only do the courses take you past scenic sites in Canada’s Capital – which is beautiful in September – Canada Army Run is unlike any other run in the country.
In 2009, in fact, this event grew more than 50 percent, to become the fastest growing run in Canada. More than 11,000 Canadians and military personnel ran, walked, or rolled – side by side – along spectator-filled streets and raised tens of thousands of dollars for Soldier On and the Military Families Fund. As John Halvorsen, President of Run Ottawa, the official race organizer for 2009 Canada Army Run said: “This kind of growth is unheard of in the running community, and sets the event up for a very exciting future.”
From the cannon used as a “starter’s pistol” to the “dog-tag” medals all participants receive, this unique event is “military” from start to finish. More than anything, though, Canada Army Run, is about Canadians and the Canadian Forces – Air Force, Army, and Navy – joining together in the spirit of camaraderie and mutual respect. It’s a chance for the troops to extend the military esprit de corps to Canadians and to thank them for their support. And, it’s an opportunity for Canadians to say thanks to the men and women who serve them in so many ways at home and abroad.
