Hi Running Skirts!
Just 3 short months ago in November of 09, my sweet (and only) brother was one of the 13 killed at Ft. Hood, Texas when one of their own soldiers, a radical Muslim, opened fired in the Soldier Readiness Center. Needless to say this has been the worst thing that has ever happened to me and my family. My brother was 8 years younger than me and I thought of him more like a son.
I am running the Dallas Rock N Roll Half Marathon on March 14th in his honor. I noticed that you mentioned on your site that 15% of your sales for your camp skirts go to wounded soldiers and families. How wonderful. I have found a new passion for supporting our soldiers and their families now that we have become a Gold Star Family.
I am going to be sponsored by TAPS - not sure if you are familiar. TAPS has some involvement in a few races across the country. They support fallen soldiers' families and have been very helpful to our family recently.
I am going to be wearing a Ft. Hood shirt with my brother's picture on the back.
Dear Cindy & Christy,
My name is Katrin and I am a mother, Wife, Emergency Room nurse and as of recent a Charity Marathon Runner. Last year, after worrying about my helath and fitness level I decide to begin running. Because of my always "giving" nature I decided to find a charity that would allow me to run for them. I am part of the AT Children's project. This charity group is out to find a cure for the disease AT which is a combination of diseases such as Cystic fibrosis, Parkinsons and cancers. Children are often in wheelchairs by te time they are teenagers and become progressively, neurologically compromised. I was teamed up last year with Team Rob, a young boy who live in CT as do I. I completed the Disney Marathon last year and was so happy to have survived that I have decided to do it again in 2010. I am still an Athena and quite a penguin and although I may never win a race, I have always finished!
I am in the process of raising $600 for the event and am 2/3 there. This however is only a minimum and I am looking to bring even more support to the AT Childrens project. I am fundraising until December 1, please click here to make a donation.
Thank you to all the RunningSkirts.com for the Cure team members for your support and assistance with fundraising for the fight against breast cancer. Check out the video from the Barrie Run for the Cure 2009 & 2008!
